The moment that you first get into a relationship with someone, it’s a very exciting and intimate process. You are just starting to get to know someone, and you take a genuine interest in finding out as much as you can about this person. It’s a very delicate and significant phase of a relationship.
It’s essentially where the foundation of a relationship is being established and built. If things go right between the both of you, you start to become very invested in your relationship. You become more inspired and motivated to just make sure that your relationship lasts for the long-term. And so you do whatever you can to keep that fire going.
But as the relationship gets deeper and becomes a whole lot more stable, there is a tendency for couples to become complacent. There is a tendency for couples to take one another for granted. And that’s one of the biggest mistakes that two people in love could ever make. It’s always important for couples to stay on top of the relationship; to never take each other for granted. They must always be working on building their intimacy throughout the duration of the relationship.
1. Never keep your feelings bottled up inside; always communicate with one another.
Remember that one of the most effective ways to really get closer to one another is to maintain constant lines of communication. You must both always be willing to talk to one another about anything – especially your feelings and emotions.
2. Support each other’s dreams and goals at all times.
If you’re really serious about staying together forever, then you both need to be doing your part in supporting one another. You can’t be serving as roadblocks to each other’s dreams. You must both be making an effort to always push and motivate one another.
3. Make an effort to always look good for one another.
Just because you know that your partner is deeply in love with you doesn’t mean that you get to stop putting in the effort to make them more attracted to you. You still have to do your part.
4. Consistently communicate your needs and expectations for each other.
You can’t just expect your partner to be a mind-reader. You must both effectively communicate your needs to one another. You must always be putting in the effort, to be honest with one another about your needs and your expectations.
5. Share a few mutual interests and passions.
Share a few hobbies. Find things that both of you can get into so that you can bond and connect in different ways.
6. Respect each other at all times under any circumstance.
No relationship in the world is ever going to flourish without first establishing a foundation of respect. You must always make it a point to respect each other. Sometimes, your emotions can get the best of you – but always try your best to maintain that mutual respect when interacting with one another.
7. Never run out of patience and compassion.
Be as patient and as compassionate with one another as possible. You are both going to have a few stumbles every so often. And you have to be able to maintain your patience whenever that happens.
8. Talk about your goals as individuals and as a couple.
If you want to ensure a future for your relationship, you must both be forward-thinking to an extent. You must both be willing to really discuss your goals and dreams with each other; Not only is that a means for you to be intimate with one another, but it’s also the responsible thing to do with regards to your relationship.
9. Be humble and willing to compromise.
The art of compromise is an essential aspect of coexistence. You aren’t always going to see eye to eye on everything – and that’s why you must both be humble enough to meet each other halfway.
10. Make it a point to always stay honest with one another.
Honesty is the best policy. The reason why that cliché is so overplayed is that it’s so true. When you stay honest with one another even when it’s inconvenient, it just goes to show how strong and secure you both are in each other and your relationship.
11. Trust each other.
Trust is an integral aspect of any healthy and happy relationship. There are very few things that are more intimate than two people who can really rely on one another to always be there. Trust each other in the sense that you’re both always going to be able to depend on one another.
12. Have regular dates.
A lot of long-term couples will make the mistake of no longer putting effort into going on dates with one another. That’s a huge mistake because dates are essentially opportunities for couples to really bond and connect in a very intimate space.
