Court has sentenced a Carletonville caregiver to five years imprisonment after she was found guilty of assaulting minors under her care.
Videos of Nellie Senwametsi beating children at the Ninnie’s Neurons Nursery School where she worked at were circulated all over media platforms.
The 40-year-old was convicted of one count of aggravated assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm on three minors.
Magistrate Jan Steyn who sentenced her declared that Senwametsi unfit to work with children.
He also made it known that her name would be added to the children offenders list.
According to the magistrate, his judgement strayed from the prescribed minimum sentence of 10 years because Senwametsi was remorseful and planned to apologise to the children’s families.
The three videos which captured Senwametsi wrongdoing surfaced in April last year.
The videos sparked nationwide outrage as the videos exposed the former caregiver abusing the children.
She was seen slapping the children across the face and on their heads repeatedly.
She also forced a child to clean up her own vomit. She grabbed a minor by the collar and threw him on a carpet.
