Ommetaphobia is also known as Ommatophobia and is the fear of eye. Ommetaphobia(fear of eyes)develops when someone has a bad situation or traumatic event occur in their life involving eyes (i.e., seeing an eye pop out of the socket, getting hit in the eye, going blind in an eye, etc.).
Causes of Ommetaphobia
Causes, like symptoms, will vary from person to person. Some people can also develop phobias with no direct cause at all. Most often, though, phobias are caused by a trauma
which usually occurs during childhood.
Symptoms of Fear of Eyes
Those who truly possess an excessive fear of eye will often exhibit some of the following symptoms:
- Excessive sweating
- Dry mouth
- Being overly cautious
- Heart palpitations
- Inability to speak
- Becoming angry
- A feeling of detachment from reality
- Uncontrollable shaking
- Feelings of unsteadiness
