Obesophobia is the fear of gaining weight. People with this phobia have to be careful because they might develop other psychological disorders, such as bulimia (eating food and throwing it up) or anorexia (refusing to eat).
Causes of Obesophobia
Causes, like symptoms, will vary from person to person. Some people can also develop phobias with no direct cause at all. Most often, though, phobias are caused by a trauma
which usually occurs during childhood.
Symptoms of Obesophobia
Those who truly possess an excessive fear of gaining weight will often exhibit some of the following symptoms:
- Excessive sweating
- Dry mouth
- Being overly cautious
- Heart palpitations
- Inability to speak
- Becoming angry
- A feeling of detachment from reality
- Uncontrollable shaking
- Feelings of unsteadiness
