The best types of relationships are those which are harmonious and positive. Still, at times you might be mistakenly feeling that your relationship is in a good place when really there’s something wrong. Believe it or not, most partners have at least one or two bad habits that their significant other gets annoyed with. Sometimes these habits can be so bad that they actually drive your partner away and leave you single with a broken heart. With that in mind, it’s best to know some of the most common “bad habits” and how you can avoid doing them. Thankfully, that’s exactly what this article is about! Continue reading below to learn 5 everyday habits that are scientifically proven to hurt your relationship. Not doing these things will keep positive vibes flowing between you and your partner, and will likely lead to a happier relationship overall.

1. Always criticizing yourself – Be careful about criticizing yourself in front of your partner. Remember that your imperfections are usually only visible to you. Your partner likely does not even notice them or pay nearly as much attention to them as you do. If you constantly talk about your flaws, you might eventually convince your other half to believe the same thing.

2. Being judgemental to everyone around you – When one person in the relationship is constantly annoyed, sooner or later it’s going to change up the flow of the relationship. Your partner can always find the negative (as well as the positive) in literally everything around, but listening to someone whine about it all the time can get extremely annoying.

3. Relying solely on your own opinion – This is a common problem among those who have been single for a while. That’s because they’re not used to having someone else around with their own opinion. To keep a relationship balanced properly, both partners need to listen to each other and find the golden middle between their own opinion and the opinion of their partner.

4. Spending more than you can afford – Improper handling of money (whether it’s overspending or excess greed) is likely to cause a conflict sooner or later. Couples need to agree on how they handle their finances from the beginning and always follow through on their agreement. Money can cause conflict between a couple just like it can between friends. Therefore, both partners in a relationship need to discuss how they manage their finances and come to an agreement on how this will change when they live together.

5. Recalling past mistakes – When you keep track of all the mistakes made in your relationship, it will only lead to new conflicts in the end. These issues should be squashed once they are resolved and keeping them bottled up for years will never do any good. When an issue arises in your relationship and you resolve it, then move on and forget about it. Don’t create additional conflict by bringing up something you’ve already discussed and resolved in the past.
