Do you feel like your relationship has gone a bit stale? You’re not alone. Breakups increase in frequency when the warmer weather comes round, as #people evaluate whether they are truly happy or feeling a bit bored. Boredom doesn’t have to signal the end, though. If the #relationship is otherwise good – or even if it’s still good – taking some steps to refresh it and keep it exciting will spice it up and ensure you’re still together when the cooler weather rolls back round.
1. Look at photos
Yep, get out your pictures, your phone or scroll through Instagram, and #look back on those happier times. Take a trip down memory lane and talk about when you first got together, or that great trip you took together, or just something that always makes you happy. Relishing in good memories will help you to reconnect and feel closer.
2. Go on a Date
A proper one, not just a movie night or that same restaurant you visit all the #time. Book somewhere new, and make a real effort to dress up and #look and feel the part. Spend the evening talking about fun topics, not work or domestic drudgery, and flirt with each other! Treat each other like you would if you were trying to woo each other. It’ll relieve tension, and bring you closer together.
3. Leave cute notes
You can do this one right now! Go and scribble a cute #love note and leave it in your partner’s lunchbox, or scrawl something lovely on the bathroom mirror. Anything goes, but make sure it’s not a text or email – go back to basics and reconnect outside of the digital #world. It’s touching, and it’ll make your #partner feel loved. Everyone will be smiling!
4. Cook Dinner
Not just every night. When it’s not expected, whip out high-quality ingredients and make your partner’s favourite dish. Follow it up with a delicious dessert and make sure you set the scene – tidy up, get some candles, whatever you feel like. It shows you were thinking about your #partner, and it’ll make them feel cherished. Win.
5. Take a break
Yes, really. Spending some #time apart can let you both unwind and it’s very therapeutic to the soul, and you’ll start to miss each other, which is always a positive! When you meet back up, you’ll feel ready to reconnect, and have much more patience and love for each other.
6. Go on an adventure
It doesn’t need to be a holiday or an exploration, although those are perfect if you love traveling! Learn to cook together, or take dance classes, refinish the furniture, or set some ambitious fitness targets. Do a long-term activity that will enrich and interest you both. You’ll feel connected and get more common ground, which is always a good thing.
7. Resolve Conflicts
Always resolve your arguments. You might feel that forgetting it and moving on is better, or prefer to sulk it out and not speak of it again, but you don’t want resentment to fester. Rather than withdrawing to separate rooms and allowing long-term hurt to #grow, remember that it’s okay to disagree, but you should always say sorry and find a resolution. Get rid of those old fights and you’ll feel instantly better.
8. Buy a rose
Do something small and romantic. It doesn’t matter what – it could be tidying the house, buying a rose, booking tickets to somewhere great, planning travel to see family…whatever romance looks like in your relationship, do something that fosters it. Take it in turns and keep the love alive.
Refreshing your relationship doesn’t have to be a chore – if you keep it as a constant effort, it won’t take much #time or effort, but you’ll have a strong relationship that will always feel fresh and loving. Neglect it and you’ll have a much bigger effort to get it back on track. How do you keep your #relationship fresh?
